It is the purpose and mission of the Children’s Education Program to prayerfully and thoughtfully plan and carry out a comprehensive program of instruction in the Christian faith, and that such programs be in harmony with the culture, ethos, and the theology of the Episcopal Church.
Our lessons follow the lectionary.
The first Sunday of the month is Youth Sunday with all children in church. There is a special youth sermon and our youth serve at the altar as acolytes, crucifers, lectors, torch bearers and ushers. Immediately after the service on Youth Sunday there is an acolyte and lector training session. We also have a Children’s Choir and they perform on special occasions.
Godly Play lessons are once a month. Godly Play is what founder Jerome Berryman calls his interpretation of Montessori religious education. It is an imaginative approach to working with children, an approach that supports, challenges, nourishes and guides their spiritual journey.
