COMPASSION

Compassion for one another at St. Clare’s is shown through Clare’s Companions, Community of Hope, Eucharistic Visitors, the prayers and service of the Daughters of the King, the prayer shawl ministry, and the ongoing companionship between parishioners. Compassion for our neighbors is shown through various outreach projects. Our newest program is reaching out to our neighbors who want to learn to speak or improve the English language.

Outreach

Outreach Programs are the ways in which the members of St. Clare’s reach out to the community with a helping hand. In addition to the many ways that individual members are involved in our area, the parish supports and promotes the following programs:

Food Pantry Donations Food Pantry donations collected at St. Clare’s Church are picked up and delivered every Thursday to our local food bank. Remember: BOGO’s are a great way to share - buy one, give one!

Stitched in Christ Stitched in Christ is a ministry of making items to be blessed for people going through a time of need. In addition to keeping our inventory stocked with prayer shawls, we started our new project entitled “Comfort Blankets.” Soliciting assistance from not only our core group of stitchers, but also community members and members of other churches across our area, we asked folks to make 10 inch x 10 inch squares which were then joined together to form blankets of varying sizes. In January 2024, eleven new blankets were blessed and delivered to the Hurlburt Johnson Friendship House in Murphy, NC for their guests.

The Stitched in Christ Comfort Blankets group can be found on Facebook where you will see many pictures.

English Language Classes For adults who want to learn to speak or improve English, we have free English classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm. Free childcare is available. For more information, click here.

Bed Builds for Children in Need Partnering with the national non-profit, Sleep in Heavenly Peace, St. Clare’s is hosted a bed build on March 23rd. 45 volunteers from the community built 24 beds to be delivered to children in need. Mattresses, linens and pillows are also be gifted with the beds. See our home page for links to request a bed or to volunteer.

Pastoral Care

Pastoral Care includes the many ways that church members care for one another in emergencies and during needs for long term assistance and for our homebound members.

Clare’s Companions Our Clare’s Companions ministry provides assistance with meals, rides to appointments, visits, cards, and flowers.

Home Communion Our Lay Eucharistic Ministers are trained and licensed to take communion to parish members who are unable to attend church, either because of short-term illness or long-term health issues. Home communion enables our members to participate in the body of Christ and retain the spiritual connection they have with members of the church who they are unable to see as regularly as in the past.
